Hobbies: Gliding! But also bicycling, jogging, XC-skiing and mountain hiking, as well as vintage gliders and planes. I also have an interest in younger history.
Family: Married with Katja (she is also a glider pilot) and 3 kids (Amelie+Felix, both 6 years; Charlotte 4 years)
Flying since: Since 1984 at the young age of 14. I have been always fascinated by gliding and started with model gliders until I finally reached the age of 14. I grew up on airfields because my parents always took me to all competitions and other gliding-events, which I greatly enjoyed. Occasionally I could also fly with my father or my mother in a two-seater.
Competing since: 1986
Flight hours: About 3.500 hours in gliders and another 100 hours in motorplanes
Podiums achieved: 2nd place at the Qualfying GP in Chile 2009, one world record and several German national records
Other flight experience: Just gliders! And some minor experience in motorplanes... towing gliders :-)
Glider to be used in the GP: Schempp-Hirth Ventus 2ax
Competition number: VV
What are your expectations to fly in Chile: It's a spectacular, breathtaking mountain flying in the most exciting gliding arena of the world + fast competition races among the best pilots of the world. If conditions are only half as good as last time, it would exceed already my expectations because those days in Jan 2009 have been my best soaring adventures ever.
